The House of Representatives has issued a call for the singer known as Naira Marley, whose real name is Azeez Fashola, to make an appearance before the legislative body.

This initiative is part of a broader campaign to address issues related to the artistic contributions of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely recognized as Mohbad, and to safeguard his rights.

The House, through its Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance, has extended an invitation to Jiggy Adeoye, the manager of Mohbad

The summoning of Mohbad’s manager is aimed at facilitating an interactive meeting slated for October 3, representing a significant move in the pursuit of rightful compensation and royalties for the late music icon.

Mohbad, who was previously signed to Naira Marley’s record label, sadly met an untimely demise at the age of 27 on September 12, under circumstances that remain unclear.

The House’s decision to get involved in this issue was instigated by a proposal put forth by Representative Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos).

Benson called for a reevaluation of the legislation governing the entertainment industry and copyright, voicing apprehension regarding the contractual obligations often imposed on artists.

In the discussion held during the plenary session on September 26, the legislators demonstrated their dedication to guaranteeing equitable remuneration and royalties for Mohbad’s music.

Additionally, the lawmakers made a commitment to overseeing the ongoing inquiry into his passing and the royalties entitled to him.

In an official correspondence dated October 26th and endorsed by the Committee’s Clerk, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim, the House issued a formal summons to both Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager.

The purpose of this summons is to obtain information about the situation and assist the committee in determining any necessary legislative measures.

The letter was channeled through the President of the Performing Musicians Associations of Nigeria.
