American musician Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has recently been arrested, has been put under suicide watch in the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York.
This preventive action comes in the wake of his recent arrest on federal allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking.
After being hauled into prison on Monday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky gave the 54-year-old rapper an order to stay in jail pending his trial.
According to reports, placing a fresh, well-known prisoner on suicide watch is normal practice.
In a statement to TMZ, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, emphasized that the rapper is not suicidal.
After spending six hours with Diddy at the facility on Thursday, Agnifilo described him as “healthy, strong, confident, and focused on his defense.”
“[He’s] not at all suicidal. He was healthy, strong, confident and focused on his defense,” Agnifilo said.
The specifics regarding the duration of Diddy’s time on suicide watch have not been disclosed.
In related news, S Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky has ruled that American singer and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs will be held without bail until his trial.
Combs is currently facing federal charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering.
