Sean Kingston, mom arraigned for “defrauding businesses of $1 million”

The Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston and his mother Janice Turner have been charged with scamming multiple businesses out of more than $1 million.

Born Kisean Anderson, the 34-year-old singer and 61-year-old Turner were taken into custody in California in May on “fraud and theft charges.”

Afterwards, a federal judge in Miami charged the two with one count of conspiracy to conduct wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud.

Their suspected involvement in a plot to swindle victim sellers of jewellery, high-end speciality automobiles, and other things acquired using bogus paperwork is the reason behind the allegations, according to reports.

The Sun Sentinel reports that Ernest Kollra, the presiding judge of the Broward Circuit court in Florida, arraigned Kingston and his mother on Monday.

On allegations of grand theft and organised theft, the rapper and Turner entered a not guilty plea. In order to guarantee the defendants’ appearance in court for their trial, a $90,000 bond was issued.

The matter was subsequently postponed until October 11 by the court for more consideration. For each of the six charges, each may spend up to 20 years in jail if found guilty.

Kingston is now serving a two-year probationary sentence for trafficking in stolen items, citing documents at the Florida Department of Corrections.

In 2006, his mother was imprisoned for bank fraud.

The hits “Beautiful Girls,” “Take You There,” and “Eenie Meenie,” which Kingston co-wrote with Justin Bieber in 2007, are what made him most famous.
