Nigerian producer and director Seun Egbegbe recently spoke about his experience in prison.
Seun Egbegbe recently discussed his experiences in an interview with Biola Adebayo for the podcast “Talk to B,” pointing out that he prioritised survival while incarcerated.
He said that prisoner deaths happen on a regular basis, recognising the terrible reality of life behind bars.
Egbegbe thanked God for his deliverance and credited his faith for it.
He described the challenging conditions in prison, including the “welcome cell” for new inmates, where he witnessed a high mortality rate.
In his words:
“People died every day in that prison. It is not a good place. I told God that if you truly exist, then I must leave here alive.
“If you go and return, thank God. Know that He loves you and has given you a second chance to live.
“There is a cell for new prisoners; it is called ‘welcome cell’. If 20 people were brought in overnight, at least two would be found dead by the following morning.”
Recall that in 2017, Egbegbe was remanded on fraud charges involving big sums of money.
He was granted bail but remained in custody due to inability to meet the conditions.
After five years and eight months, he was finally acquitted in 2022.
