The Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, better known by her stage name Simi, has admitted that she has struggled in recent years with feeling like she is losing herself.
She gave an explanation of her imposter syndrome struggles.
The single mother claimed that although she has always valued the opportunity to know herself “deeply,” she felt alienated from herself in more recent times.
The vocalist made this announcement about her future album.
Simi disclosed this on her X handle,
“For most of my life, I have enjoyed the privilege of knowing myself deeply, unwaveringly, truly. In more recent years, I have also endured the discomfort of losing myself. Sometimes, to make room for something else that I needed to be – other times, because I could not, for the life of me, find my way. I felt like a stranger to myself. This version of me has been the hardest one to look at in the mirror.
“Making this album is a symbol of finding parts of myself again that I hoped I hadn’t lost permanently. I don’t believe that we ever stop finding ourselves. If you’re willing to look, there’s always more. This is a tribute to the things we continue to find and rediscover.”
Recall that, Ayra Starr also acknowledged to struggling imposter syndrome after the release of her hit song, ‘Rush’.
She revealed the information in a recent Billboard interview.
A persistent sense of inferiority in the face of evidence of one’s abilities and accomplishments is known as imposter syndrome.
Ayra Starr said she had to be persuaded by her team to release ‘Rush’ because she had doubts about the song.
She said:
“They had to convince me to put that song out because I was not sure.”
When asked why she was not sure, the songstress said ‘Rush’ was different from her previously released records, adding that her team encouraged her to drop it.
She added that the song blew up as soon as it debuted and she began to feel undeserving of the success.
She said: “I put out different sounds all the time, but with ‘Rush’, it was different from anything I had put out before. I was like, ‘I am not sure I want to do this’, and everybody was like, ‘Trust me, Ayra, just trust your team.
“And when it came out, it blew up immediately. Just from the snippet, like a 30-second snippet, it was already trending.
“I started to have imposter syndrome because nothing like that has ever happened to me. Like, I do not know if I deserve this.”
