The Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye also known as Speed Darlington has been arrested after a performance in Owerri, Imo state.
Human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju posted via X on Wednesday to report the singer’s detention.
“Our client Speed Darlington a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” he said.
In a follow-up tweet, Adeyanju disclosed that Grammy winner Burna Boy is “behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police”.
“Burna Boy is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela but now oppressing Akpi,” the lawyer added.
In October, the content producer was detained by police in Abuja following an official complaint submitted by Burna Boy.
However, after being held by the police for five days, he was freed on bail.
Due to Burna Boy’s association with the troubled American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is accused of sexual exploitation and human trafficking, Darlington had made fun of him.
Additionally, he invited Burna Boy, a project executive who Diddy produced, to describe how he won the Grammy for his album “Twice As Tall.” He asserted that the two had a sexual relationship.
