Pop superstar Taylor Swift and American football player Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday, setting the stage for one of the world’s most high-profile weddings.

The couple shared a joint Instagram post showing Kelce proposing in a flower-filled garden before Swift displayed a dazzling diamond ring. Captioning the photos, they joked: “Your English teacher and gym teacher are getting married.”

Swift and Kelce, both 35, went public with their relationship in 2023. Since then, they have been regular fixtures at each other’s events — Swift at Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games and Kelce at her record-breaking Eras Tour, which grossed over $2 billion and drew millions of fans worldwide.

Swifties are now eagerly awaiting her next album, The Life of a Showgirl, scheduled for release on 3 October. The announcement was revealed earlier this month on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason.

Swift, a 14-time Grammy winner, last released The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024. While known for heartbreak anthems inspired by famous exes, her relationship with Kelce has flourished under public scrutiny.

Their engagement comes despite political tensions; Swift clashed with Donald Trump last year after endorsing his opponent Kamala Harris, prompting Trump to declare: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.”

The couple’s wedding promises to be a major cultural event, uniting the worlds of music and sport in global spotlight.
