Nigerian teenage content creator and actress Abibat Saka, popularly known as Anti Abibat, has appealed for financial assistance after the death of her brother left her family facing severe financial difficulties.
The 15-year-old made the emotional appeal on Sunday, following a video she shared two days earlier in which she disclosed that her family had been forced to take her brother home from hospital after running out of money to fund his treatment.
Despite exhausting their savings, borrowing money and accumulating substantial debts in an effort to save him, her brother died within 48 hours of leaving the medical facility.
Reacting to the tragedy, the young skitmaker criticised Nigeria’s healthcare system, lamenting that access to life-saving treatment often depends on a person’s financial circumstances. She said her brother could no longer receive emergency medical care once the family ran out of funds.
The experience has reportedly taken a significant emotional toll on the teenager, who reflected on the burden of trying to pay for medical treatment while still being a child herself.
In a subsequent Facebook post, Abibat disclosed that she had repeatedly used her platform to draw attention to the country’s deteriorating healthcare system before the tragedy affected her own family.
She urged other public figures to speak out about systemic problems before they personally experience similar situations. She also shared a farewell photograph with her late brother alongside her bank details, appealing to well-wishers to help the family settle its outstanding debts.
Her heartbreaking story has prompted an outpouring of condolences across the country, alongside renewed calls for affordable and accessible healthcare for Nigerians.
