Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has made history as the first female African artist to receive a Diamond certification in the United States.
Her collaboration with Future and Drake on the hit song Wait For U recently earned Diamond status from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after surpassing 10 million units sold in the U.S.
Music analytics platform Chart Data also reported that the track has now sold more than 11 million units across the United States.
“US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) Feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000),” the platform posted on X on Friday.
Tems now joins Wizkid as the only African artists to earn a Diamond single in US. Wizkid was the first African artist to receive a RIAA Diamond Certification through his collaboration with Drake on ‘One Dance.’
