Users of the microblogging platform X have donated more than N14 million to Felix Madumere, a graduating student of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ebonyi State, following online mockery over his appearance.

The incident began on Monday after an X user, identified as Vector Olal, shared photographs of Felix during his final-year project defence with the caption, “I just did my final-year project defence,” while also tagging another post which read, “This is a range bath tweet.”

The second post indicated that the initial publication was intended to mock Felix, prompting other users to make fun of his appearance and age.

However, another X user, Mercy Ninian, disclosed that Felix was her coursemate and shared details of the difficulties he had faced in his pursuit of education.

According to Ninian, Felix worked several jobs and slept in classrooms while trying to complete his education. She also said he was withdrawn from the university after failing to pay his fees and meet the required CGPA, but eventually returned after retaking the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination.

“If you know him, you won’t catch cruise with him. This boy will fetch water, wash other students’ clothes, hawk peanuts, sleep in classrooms,” she wrote.

“Because he wasn’t able to pay his school fees the first time he got admission and couldn’t meet up with the CGPA, the school withdrew him; still, he wrote JAMB and came back. Kudos to Felix.”

Ninian’s post generated widespread reactions, with some X users praising Felix’s determination while others called for people to support him financially.

Wizarab, a prominent figure on X, subsequently shared Felix’s bank account details and appealed for financial support after making a personal donation of N100,000.

Following the appeal, several X users began contributing to the fundraiser.

By Thursday, Wizarab posted an update showing a screenshot of Felix’s account balance, which had risen to N14,179,421.

Wizarab thanked everyone who contributed to the fundraiser, noting that what began as online mockery had eventually turned into a miracle. He also said Felix would be guided on how to invest the money and protect his finances.

Felix later took to X to appreciate Wizarab and the other users who supported him.

“Thank you so much, sir. I’ll still make a proper video and say a proper thank you,” he wrote.
