Tyla, a South African music sensation, has made history by becoming the most streamed album by a Black female artist in 2024, surpassing worldwide queen Beyoncé.

On Spotify, Tyla’s self-titled debut album had an astounding 1.565 billion plays, surpassing Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which received 1.564 billion plays.

Tyla’s accomplishment also makes her the artist responsible for the most streamed album ever by an African woman.

With almost one billion Spotify plays, the album’s first track, “Water,” has been an enormous success.

The track earned Tyla her first Grammy, winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Despite these accomplishments, Tyla’s album and its deluxe version were conspicuously absent from the recently announced 67th Grammy nominations, sparking discussions among fans and followers.

Tyla’s accomplishments this year extend beyond streaming records.

She is currently the most awarded African artist of 2024, with an impressive haul of 20 awards.

Her accolades include 1 Grammy, 3 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), 2 BET Awards, 1 MTV Video Music Award (VMA), and 1 Billboard Global Force Award. Additionally, she has been recognized with 4 South African Music Awards (SAMAs), 1 Cultural and Creative Industry Award, 1 DStv Content Creator Award, 1 3 Music Award, 1 Metro FM Music Award, 1 Africa Arts Entertainment Award, 2 Basadi in Music Awards, and 1 South African Style Award.
