The controversial activist VeryDarkMan has expressed apologies to Femi Falana for his recent derogatory comments directed towards the human rights attorney.

The social media influencer made an apology to the senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on Monday.

He made these remarks during his testimony before the House of Representatives’ financial crimes and defamation committee.

Due to accusations of bribery made against members of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the influencer was invited.

“Some people are taking advantage of what is going on to target Femi Falana,” the fitness guru said.

“Here, I apologise to him for the dent to his name. It’s so sad that his name was inside that audio. I couldn’t believe as well; that is the part that irritated me more when I said I refuse to believe that he is a party to something like that.”

The apology was made over a week after he released an audio recording of a discussion in which social media star Bobrisky stated that Falana and his son Falz had assisted in the EFCC dropping its allegations against her for money laundering.

In the recording, Bobrisky stated that she communicated with Falz in prison and that the rapper and his dad “tried to get me a presidential pardon in exchange for N10,000,000″.

Falana called the accusation a “vicious and reckless” attempt to “impugn my reputation” in response to it on Wednesday.

The SAN also gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the Abuja-based activist to recant his statement or face legal action.

Falz also asked that VeryDarkMan retract their statement.

In his answer, VeryDarkMan, through Deji Adeyanju, his legal counsel, denied putting out a defamatory comment against the human rights lawyer.

The activist made it clear that the purpose of making the voice recordings public was to encourage a careful examination of Bobrisky’s claims, not to malign Falana.

VeryDarkMan, however, did not apologise or retract the statement as requested, arguing that nobody was defamed.

Folakemi Falana, the daughter of Falana, had earlier revealed they would take the activist to court for alleged defamation.
