The veteran Nigerian actor John Amaefule has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke.

Amaefule is also requesting financial support from Nigerians to pay for his medical bills, according to a recent Instagram post by film producer Stanley Ontop.

After reportedly having a stroke, the seasoned movie star was taken to a hospital in Owerri, the capital of Imo state.

Amaefule’s family is looking for financial support to pay for the required tests and therapy, according to pictures and videos that Ontop posted of the actor receiving treatment.

“Nollywood veteran actor John Amaefule was rushed to the hospital this morning in Owerri after encountering with stroke,” the post reads.

“He’s suffering from stroke, the family is asking Nigerians to pls help. He is currently in FCM Owerri and they need money to save this man.”

A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is hindered, resulting in numbness on one side of the body.

According to Ontop, in Amaefule’s case, the doctor’s report revealed that he had a stroke on the left side of his brain, causing right-sided weakness.

“This message is from the doctor. He had a stroke in the left side of his brain. Which is likely causing right sided weakness, They need to do lipid panel test, Hemoglobin Alc test, Electrolyte urea and creatinine test for him,” it added.

“Then he needs to be on medications for cholesterol – atorvastatin, blood pressure – maybe losartan or hydrochlorothiazide if he’s not already on one and if he has diabetes or not. He should be on aspirin and clopidogrel.”
