[VIDEO] Iron-a-thon: Kogi man ends 200-hour ironing marathon ‘abruptly’ over health issues

A Nigerian man identified as Dauda Abdulfatai has ended his attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest ironing marathon due to health reasons.

The Kogi-born fashion designer began his 200-hour attempt to set a world record in Lokoja, the state’s capital, on January 10.

However, in a post via X on Tuesday, he disclosed that he had to halt the attempt after exceeding 142 hours of continuous ironing.

The 27-year-old from Adavi LGA said he was unable to meet his 200-hour target due to health concerns and feedback from his medical team.

The fashion designer said during the marathon, he ironed 2,249 garments.

“I wish to announce to everyone I have abruptly halted my pursuit of the 200-hour ironing marathon in the Guinness World Records quest,” he said.

“My decision, citing medical reasons and reports from my health team, comes after I surpassed 142 hours in the ironing marathon.

“I have already surpassed the 2015 record held by Gareth Sanders for a 100-hour ironing marathon from the UK.

“Notably, I have ironed an impressive 2249 garments during this marathon.

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout this journey.”

Gareth Sanders, the current record holder, achieved the feat in 2015 after nearly 100 hours of non-stop ironing of 2,000 items.

Abdulfattah joins the growing list of Nigerians who have attempted GWR tasks since the beginning of 2023.
