The Nigerian actress Mary Njoku has asked about the benefits of membership in Nollywood guilds and associations.
The 39-year-old film producer claimed in a recent Instagram post that she was asked by an aspiring filmmaker about the benefits of joining these guilds, but she found it difficult to give a definitive response.
Mary invited her followers to provide evidence-based explanations of the advantages of joining Nollywood guilds and societies.
“A budding filmmaker asked me ‘what are the benefits of being part of Nollywood guilds and associations?’ and I’m struggling to give a clear answer. Can someone help outline the benefits with supporting evidence?,” she wrote.
According to the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), there are 22 approved Nollywood guilds and associations, including the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Practioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
Mary Njoku is the founder of ROK Studio, a movie production firm established in 2013.
In 2019, she oversaw the acquisition of ROK by CANAL+, marking the largest international deal to date for a Nollywood brand.
