Nigerian award-winning singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has shared the reassuring words his wife, Chioma Rowland Adeleke, offered him after he missed out on a Grammy Award for the second time.
Davido’s track With You, featuring Omah Lay, was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category but failed to secure the award, which went to South African singer Tyla for her song Push 2 Start.
The category had strong Nigerian representation, with Burna Boy nominated for Love, Davido for With You featuring Omah Lay, and a joint nomination by Ayra Starr and Wizkid for Gimme Dat.
Also on the nomination list were Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin. Despite the notable presence of Nigerian artistes, none emerged as winners in the category.
In a post on Instagram, Davido revealed that after the announcement, he suggested to his wife that they skip the after-party.
However, Chioma urged him to step out. Sharing photos from the outing, the singer wrote: “I said baby listen, we lost again, let’s not go! She said, ‘Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. We’re outside.”
