Why Africans abroad won’t tell you their reality – Seun Kuti

Nigerian artist and activist Seun Kuti has expressed his opinions about what he believes to be a “unwritten rule” among Africans residing abroad.

Kuti claims that a large number of Africans who have left their homeland frequently hide from their relatives the real difficulties they face on a daily basis.

Seun Kuti asserted in an Instagram live session that Africans living overseas typically give a more positive account of their experiences rather than disclosing the challenges they encounter.

He suggested that the unwritten agreement among Africans living overseas to conceal the truth about their circumstances is what is causing this problem.

According to Seun Kuti, if Africans living overseas were more open about their circumstances, it may discourage others from fleeing their homelands in pursuit of “greener pastures.”

He underlined that a more truthful depiction of living overseas would assist people in making better migration decisions.

He said

“There is no single African who has Japa that can come and tell you that what I’m about to say is a lie. There is a silent, non-spoken, non-written agreement between every African who has travelled not to relay his true experience to his people.

Every single African here who has left Africa for greener pastures, they have an unwritten code among themselves not to tell you the reality of their day to day experience. If the Africans abroad create a blog to tell you their real experiences, nobody from Africa would go again. We would end up saying, ‘i would rather die.’”
