Reality star Efe Money recently discussed why he believes musicians that have featured on Big Brother Naija experience difficulties in the music industry after the show.
Efe Money discussed his insights about the challenges faced by previous housemates who pursue careers in music following the reality programme during a “Trending” interview with Hip TV.
The 2017 Big Brother Naija winner, Efe Money, noted that the audience for the reality show is very different from that of regular music fans.
He claims that this gap has made it difficult for former housemates who go into music to build a devoted following outside of the show’s audience.
“The reality TV audience is almost totally different from the music audience. The reality TV audience are passive consumers of music. They enjoy lifestyle and drama…while the active music consumers are totally different,” Efe Money tells Trending. “When you go to reality TV, they just want to see you for your drama, fine clothes, who you’re dating. They have less interest in your music,” Efe said.
Many musicians who have appeared on Big Brother Naija have found it difficult to transition successfully, even if they had high hopes of using the platform to advance their music careers.
It has been difficult for winners like Laycon and Whitemoney, who took home the titles in the 2020 and 2021 competitions, to achieve general attention for their musical pursuits.
After leaving the Brother Naija home, former roommates Bryann, Vee, Uriel, Avala, Groovy, and Soma have also had trouble making a name for themselves in the music business.
