Nigerian musician and activist Michael Stephens, also known as Ruggedman, has spoken out about not becoming a husband or father yet.
The 51-year-old disclosed that he had been true to his promise to avoid having an unwed kid since he was much younger.
This was recently revealed by Ruggedman during an appearance on the TVC show Your View.
He claimed that because he has been dumped a few times and has not yet found the proper person, he is single. In his own words:
“I am not married and do not have a child yet. When I was much younger, I vowed never to have a child out of wedlock. Sometimes, I wonder whether I made the right or wrong decision. But still, it takes a lot from both parties. You have to do it with someone you really love.”
“I have met some ladies I thought I would end up with, but it didn’t work out. There was a particular lady I was supposed to marry, but a wealthy man came into the picture, and her mother separated us.”
In a 2021 interview, Ruggedman revealed that his mother and other family members were not pressuring him about marriage despite being over 40 years of age. He added that he would get married when he was ready.
In a different story, Ruggedman asserts that he is the first up-and-coming Nigerian musician to acquire a vehicle.
He asserted in an Echo Room interview that he had a car before Afrobeats superstars D’banj and P-Square.
“I bought my BMW for N900,000 in 2004. I was the first young Nigerian artist to own a car before them P-Square and D’banj,” he said.
“The only artists that had cars then were signed to Kennis Music. They didn’t own the cars. They were only given to them for official use. Tuface shared the same car with his labelmates then.”
Ruggedman also claimed that he was “the first young artist to print posters and calendars back then.”
