The American singer and actress Selena Gomez has disclosed that she would not be able to get pregnant because of health issues.
In a cover story for Vanity Fair that was released on Monday, Gomez discussed how her health problems have made it difficult for her to conceive naturally.
The actress said she still plans on becoming a mom one day, adding that “it’s just not going to happen necessarily the way I envisioned it”.
“I haven’t ever said this. But I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while,” she said.
“I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone.”
Gomez, who seeks to start a family with boyfriend Benny Blanco in the future, said she is however open to surrogacy and adoption.
“I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” she said.
“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Remember that Gomez stated in June that if she is still unmarried by the age of 35, she intends to adopt children.
The singer, who is 32 years old, has previously struggled with several health issues.
She had previously disclosed that she had been diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that is incurable and causes the body’s immune system to go into overdrive, attacking healthy tissue.
Gomez also disclosed that in 2017 she had received a kidney transplant.
