Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi, states she had no desire to write ‘Joromi‘, her 2017 hit single.

Joromi, one of the singer’s greatest hits to date, is the sixth song on her second studio album, Simisola.

The 36-year-old revealed in an interview with CNN Africa that she occasionally feels compelled to compose songs even in the absence of “any inspiration.”

“Joromi” is a “deadline song,” she said, adding that creating it “irritated” her.

“Sometimes I do not have any inspiration but I have a deadline. I do not really like those because it is like you have to force it to come and I am not crazy about those,” she said.

“But I have made like really great songs from those, ‘Joromi’ was one of those. ‘Joromi’ was a deadline song. I was even done. They sent me a beat and I was like I am done writing but they said this beat and I was like okay.

“I wrote like five different songs on that piece that I did not like them and ‘Joromi’ came and that was like the deadline song. I did not even want to write the song, I was just irritated but I am glad that I did.”

In another story, Simi shared the secret to her success in the music industry.

The talented mother of one acknowledged the sacrifices made by the trailblazing female artists who came before her and expressed gratitude for their contributions to her own achievement.

Simi emphasised the women’s work ethic in breaking down barriers and defying expectations in the male-dominated music industry.

She pointed out that by shattering the status quo, those workaholic women made it possible for other women to thrive in an industry that was predominately male.

During her conversation with African Folder, Simi credited the strong women who influenced her career, stating, “There are women who have worked hard to damn the status quo.”

Acknowledging the influence of her predecessors, Simi emphasized that her success is also due to the groundwork laid by these inspirational women.

“So, I won’t give myself much credit than for because I also benefitted from other women who came before me” she added.
