Nollywood actor Olumide Oworu has opened up about his decision to venture into partisan politics.

In a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, the 31-year-old said one of the reasons he joined politics was to be part of the policymaking process. He stressed that the poor decisions of the current crop of politicians affect him just like every other ordinary citizen.

Oworu added that Nigeria has been moving backwards over the years, and he wants to be among those who will rise to help prevent the nation from total collapse.

He also pointed to the advanced age of many current politicians as one of the reasons that influenced his decision to go into politics.

“I decided to join politics because of how the country is going. I know how Nigeria was when I was younger, but now, things keep getting worse. And I want to start a family and raise my kids here.

“So, I have to make sure that I try my best to be among the policymakers because whatever policy that is being enacted, it would ultimately, affect me like every other common person.

“And also, most of the present crops of politicians are aging out and whatever policy they are making today, it is me and my friends who will be at the receiving end tomorrow,” he explained.

Oworu contested for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing the Surulere 1 constituency under the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, but lost to his colleague, Desmond Elliott.

Despite the setback, his passion for politics remains strong and unwavering.
