Why I left Mark Angel comedy – Ex-partner, Denilson Igwe speaks

Former member of the popular comedy group Mark Angel Comedy Team Denilson Igwe has come up with claims that he was mistreated by the group’s founder, Mark Angel.

Denilson related his experience on a recent “Honest Bunch” podcast episode, stating that during his time as a cinematographer, he was one of the creators of the Mark Angel Comedy routines.

Denilson claimed that Mark Angel, who was then employed as a security guard, had persuaded them to make a Facebook profile, which he then made money off of without telling them.

In addition, he stated that Mark Angel lied about it being a gift when he purchased a car in 2014.

Furthermore, Denilson stated that Mark Angel paid Emmanuella, a popular child comedian in the group, a monthly salary of 20,000 Naira, while the crew was unaware of the significant revenue generated from the Facebook page, which was reportedly $160,000 per month.

Denilson concluded by saying that he is the only one who can speak out against Mark Angel, as he is an orphan and has seen others who have spoken out against him meet with accidents or even death. His allegations have sparked controversy and raised questions about the inner workings of the Mark Angel Comedy group.

“I was the one that started Mark Angel Comedy. Mark was the elder brother of the house. He was a security in Kilimanjaro, Port Harcourt. I was learning photography with a man called Ifeanyi,” Igwe narrated.

“So I stole the camera. In our own free time, I will do comedy.

“So Mark said we should open a Facebook page and I agreed but I didn’t know when it was monetised but I kept doing it.

“Suddenly in 2020, he bought a car so I asked how he got money to buy a car. He said someone gave it to him.

“So I said okay but the thing is I have not received N1000 since that time.

“So he started paying Emmanuella N20,000 monthly. In 2016 was the first time he gave me N50,000. He said I should hold it, saying, ‘You know this thing doesn’t bring money’.

“We were making $160,000 then. The only person that can talk about him is me because I’m an orphan, he can’t kill me.

“People say if you talk about him, you will die.

“I was scared because he would just finish you. If you have a problem with him, it’s either you die or get involved in an accident.”
