Why I left my marriage with Akin Olaiya — Second wife

The estranged wife of Yoruba actor Akin Olaiya, Nafisat Hammed, has opened up on why she walked away from their marriage.

Olaiya and Nafisat got married in June 2025 at a ceremony held in Oyo State, with clips from the wedding widely circulated on social media.

Speculation about trouble in their marriage grew after a letter allegedly signed by the actor surfaced online, announcing the end of the union.

However, Olaiya did not share the letter on his official social media pages, leaving many uncertain about the actual state of the relationship.

In a viral video obtained on Wednesday, Nafisat confirmed that the marriage had ended and explained some of the reasons behind her decision.

Addressing the controversy, she said many people had formed opinions without knowing the full story.

“Like yesterday, I saw what was trending on social media. A lot of people were voicing their own sides of the story without knowing the facts. But I am here to tell my side,” she said.

According to Nafisat, she left the marriage three months ago due to emotional pain and alleged mistreatment.

““Three months ago, I left my marriage because I was in pain and mistreated. I felt I did not matter.

“Nobody prays to stay in a marital home that involves violence. Regarding the divorce letter circulating on social media, everything is quite chaotic. In reality, my husband and I have not been together for a long time—since last year,” she stated.

She said she intentionally kept details of her marital struggles away from the public while she was still in the relationship.

“That is something I would never do on social media. But I want people to understand that it does not make sense to say that I just packed up and left without cause, simply for my own enjoyment. That is not possible. You should all consider whether that makes sense. All I can say is that I handled it,” she added.

Nafisat further alleged that she was betrayed by two people she trusted most, claiming that Olaiya eventually married one of her close friends.

She said, “Imagine, after all that mistreatment, the pain, and everything, the husband ends up marrying your own best friend. What does that mean? It is because I am not the type of person who will just come and tell my side of the story so openly. I am not used to it … in our culture, we are not trained that way. We cannot just come and expose someone.”

She also dismissed rumours claiming she left the marriage because of a health condition, saying she had no knowledge of where such claims originated.

Reacting to the speculation, she said, “Regarding the claims on social media that he would drag me out because I have an infection—I do not know where that is coming from, or if he is the one spreading such rumours.

“All I can say is that my husband and I are no more [together]. The two people I trusted ended up betraying me; they really disappointed me.”

Despite the painful experience, Nafisat said she has chosen to move forward, prioritising her peace, happiness and future.

“It is not a big deal. That is what he decided to do, and that is what he has in mind. I do not want to put myself in his shoes, as we are no longer together. I am praying for a good future for myself, and I choose my peace and happiness over everything. Thank God I am living my own life,” she added.
