Nigerian singer Teniola Apata, better known by her stage name Teni, has given an explanation for her recent prostration to welcome well-known businessman and socialite Ibrahim Egungbohun Dende, also known as IBD Dende, on an aircraft.

Teni reportedly faced criticism on Friday after posting a video of herself on her X account of herself bowing down to welcome IBD Dende on an aircraft.

Despite smuggling allegations against IBD Dende, she was criticized by most commentators for her association with him.

In response, Teni stated on Sunday morning that she was unaware of any illegal activity linked to IBD Dende. She also mentioned that the businessman had been courteous to her in 2014, before she became well-known, and that she had always held him in the highest regard.

The crooner of “Askamaya” stated that she opposes illegal activity.

She wrote, “[I] Met IBD [Dende] in 2014 and he was so good to me, even before I blew up. So when[ever] I see him, it’s always love.

“I honestly had no knowledge of any criminal activities associated with him. I do not support criminals, so let the law take its course.”
