Actor Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that he stepped away from acting in 2019 because he found the profession unfulfilling and felt the pay was inadequate.
The actor opened up about his career journey during a recent interview on the CreativiTea podcast.
He said his decision to leave the industry was driven by frustration over the kind of roles available and the compensation attached to them at the time.
According to Okanlawon, he felt he had left a conventional 9-to-5 job only to end up doing work he considered mediocre.
He added that the lack of fulfilment made it increasingly difficult to remain in the profession, prompting his return to corporate employment.
“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay and the work were nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9 – 5 work to come and do mediocre work.
“It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it. So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work”, he said.
Okanlawon has since returned to acting and is now widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s leading actors in film and television.
