Nigerian comedian Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, has shared that, after considering the criticism, she almost regretted sharing her weight loss journey.
The comic disclosed that prior to undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, her weight was causing her to have multiple health issues.
She was very open about some of the difficulties she continued to experience even after the successful procedure.
The comedian revealed that she frequently required hospitalisation due to her significant illness challenges in an interview with Ghanaian journalist Doreen Avio on JoyNews.
Warri Pikin claimed that this affected her ability to perform and maintain herself.
The comedian-turned-actress remarked, “It wasn’t easy at all,” adding that she had to return some money that had been paid to her and couldn’t participate in comedy events.
Warri Pikin described the backlash she faced after sharing her story of having gastric sleeve surgery.
She admitted that she regretted the negative feedback she had received and that she had second-guessed her choice to share more specifics about her metamorphosis.
Warri Pikin continued, saying that she now realises how hard it is for certain individuals to accept change.
According to her:
“I almost regretted coming out to say my truth, because people do not accept change. They are stuck with the old version of you because your old version makes them happy, and comfortable. They are plus size, they’re big, they can relate and it makes them happy. So, when you change they feel like you’ve betrayed them, they can’t accept change.”
