Why Kannywood lags behind Nollywood – Actor Uzee Usman

Kannywood actor Uzee Usman has identified inadequate funding and investment as the major challenge slowing the growth of Nigeria’s Hausa-language film industry.

Speaking in a recent interview on The Morayo Show, Usman said that although Kannywood boasts a rich storytelling tradition and decades of history, its progress has been limited by the unwillingness of wealthy individuals and politicians from Northern Nigeria to invest in the industry.

“Despite being around for a while and having good stories, I think the major issue affecting Kannywood is the lack of sponsorship and investment,” he said.

“Many northerners who are millionaires and politicians don’t really believe in or invest in the entertainment industry the way people in the South (Nollywood) do.”
