Wizkid adopts new name

Nigerian pop star, Wizkid has changed his name to ‘Big Wiz’ on his Instagram page.

Before now, there has been clamour from fans and music pundits for the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner   to shift away from the “-kid” suffix in his official stage name to hint his evolution over the years as well as his emergence in the global music scene.

Checks on Monday revealed he had adopted “Big Wiz” as his profile name.

The change came without prior announcement, leaving fans hesitant as to whether or not it’s an official stage name change.

But his Twitter page, as of the time of this report, had still retained the name “Wizkid” despite being active.

Wizkid’s handle across both social media platforms also remained unchanged.

Back in March 2021, Wizzy won his first-ever Grammy Award for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ off the 2019 album, ‘The Lion King’, at the 63rd Grammy Award.

He won the award alongside Beyonce, who owns the song and featured artists – Wizkid, Blue Ivy, and SAINt JHN

The official Twitter account of Grammy tweeted, “Congrats Best Music Video winner – ‘BROWN SKIN GIRL’ @Beyonce #BlueIvy @wizkidayo”.
