Wizkid once advised me against rushing to own music label – L.A.X

The Nigerian artist L.A.X has disclosed that Wizkid cautioned him against launching his record label too soon.

Following the release of the popular song “Caro,” which featured Wizkid, L.A.X secured a contract with Starboy Entertainment in 2013. But after a few years, he quit the label to launch Rasaki, his own band.

Rumours of a falling out between L.A.X and Wizkid were circulating at the time.

However, in a recent interview on the WithChude podcast, the singer clarified the situation. He disclosed that while on a trip to Malaysia, he had spoken with Wizkid about his objectives.

He claimed that when he expressed his wish to launch his own label to Wizkid, the “Made In Lagos” hitmaker advised him against acting hastily.

L.A.X said Wizkid advised him to release a few more songs under both Rasaki and Starboy Entertainment to avoid giving the public the impression that they had a rift.

“At the time I decided to build, I knew that I needed to do it again. I felt like I needed to make all the decisions alone. Nobody was going to tell me no. I just called Wiz. We had a show in Malaysia,” he said.

“And I sat down with him and was like ‘My boss, I really want to do this alone. I think I want to start my label. He said ‘If you go now and say you want to start your label. It is not that I do not want you to go but the world is going to say me and you fought.

“So let us not do it like that. Let us drop a couple more songs under the label. And now start talking about your label’.

“That is why in most videos now, it had StarBoy Razaki. We did that for like my next three songs. So, now you can leave. They have seen both of us working together even while you are doing your own thing.”
