Nigerian rapper Lanre Dabiri, popularly known as Eldee The Don, has disclosed his participation in the early days of Grammy-winning artist Wizkid’s career.

Eldee said he was the one who persuaded Wizkid to perform afrobeats during his appearance on the Adesope Live show.

He stated that Wizkid was initially leaning towards dancehall and reggae when he was signed to the EME record label, but he was counselled to produce music with Nigerian characteristics. In his own words:

“Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him before he dropped his first single but I told him he has to find a middle ground and do something Nigerian with a lot of flavors in it.”

Eldee The Don who relocated abroad a while back said Wizkid took the advice and started making Afropop songs like ‘Don’t Dull,’ which gave him a big break.

On the same podcast, the singer highlighted his father’s pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s technological landscape, revealing that he was the first to connect the country to the internet.

Eldee disclosed that his father established Nigeria’s first cyber cafe in Lagos and provided internet services to major clients, including oil companies like Mobil and government institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He credited his early exposure to technology to his father’s groundbreaking efforts, noting that it significantly influenced his journey and gave him an edge into Nigeria’s competitive music industry.
