The Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has responded to reports suggesting he is estranged from his children with his first wife, May Edochie, insisting that they still maintain a close bond.
The clarification comes amid an ongoing court case between Yul and May, who are seeking the legal dissolution of their marriage.
The controversy surrounding their union began in April 2022 after Yul publicly introduced actress Judy Austin as his second wife.
In 2023, May filed for divorce, accusing him of adultery and demanding N100 million in damages.
The divorce proceedings have reportedly been delayed by unresolved issues, including the terms of the marriage dissolution, remarriage rights, and the adultery claim.
Against this backdrop, rumours emerged that the actor had cut ties with his children from his first marriage.
However, Yul dismissed the claims during a recent appearance on the KaaTruths podcast.
“I am in contact with my children. I have heard a lot of things. About people saying ‘he abandoned his children’,” he said.
He backed his position by pointing to his continued involvement in their lives, explaining that he stays in regular touch and supports them financially.
“My second son just got into the university months ago. He just did his matriculation a few days back. Infact, he told me a day before time, and I told him I was busy,” he said.
Yul also criticised the role of social media in fuelling speculation about his private life.
“The people here on social media are just one per cent of the truth. The real things happening in people’s homes, the main issues, do not even come out on social media. The crux of my matter is not on social media.
“Everything people say are all speculations. Someone comes up with something and blows it out of proportion. And then they were waiting for me to come out and respond.
“People are so interested in knowing what is happening. And most of them are even having family problems. They have not solved their own problems; they want to know what is happening in another man’s.”
The actor explained that he has refrained from posting his children with May on social media due to a court order linked to the ongoing divorce case.
“There is also a court order. There is a divorce case going on. That is why I cannot really speak. It says anything that has to do with the children, for their own safety, I should not post,” he added.
“They said no more posting.”
Yul and Judy Austin welcomed their third child together last year.
