Abiodun blames FRSC for Ota tollgate accidents
The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has blamed the men of the Federal Road Safety Corps for accidents that usually occurred around the tollgate area of Ota in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state, The Punch report.
A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, on Sunday, said the governor had directed the Ogun State Public Works Agency to commence palliative work along the road to ease traffic congestion.
The statement quoted the governor as saying, “Those vehicles that the FRSC usually asked to park by the roadside contribute to the gridlock and pose danger to unsuspecting motorists.”
It added, “Governor Abiodun has therefore issued a “no parking” directive to the corps.
“Already, officers of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps are in the area controlling traffic and to possibly move roadside traders from the right of way.”
The governor also disclosed plan by the state government to equip the Fire Services for effective operations, saying, “We are going to ensure that our firefighters are adequately equipped in order to promptly respond to emergencies within their jurisdiction.”
On road maintenance, he said, “We are engaging the Federal Ministry of Works and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency in such a manner that whenever we have a peculiar reason to work on roads within their coverage, we would alert them while TRACE officers manage traffic during the repair work.”
The governor advised the public to avoid habits that contribute to the damage of roads such as the dumping of refuse in drainages and pouring of harmful chemicals and products on roads.
