The Ogun Government on Tuesday said plans were underway to renovate 160 public primary and secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Mr Oluola Aikulola, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, disclosed this during the monitoring of the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) ongoing in the state.
Aikulola noted that on-the-spot inspections had been done by the state government to identify and find a lasting solution to the various current stages of disrepair of the schools.
‘’A total number of 160 schools in need of urgent rehabilitation have been identified and work will commence in earnest as assured by Gov. Dapo Abiodun, to be one of the things his administration hopes to achieve within one hundred days in office,” he said.
On the BECE, the permanent secretary said he was impressed by the general conduct of this year’s examination.
He said that there was adequate supply of materials which were packed according to subjects and the schools they were meant for while students were met already writing the papers of the day.
“I can also assure you by the grace of God, results will be out in record time. Government has released funds for the conduct of the exams, It, therefore, behoves on us to ensure there is no delay in releasing results,” he said.
The principal, Kobape Community High School, Mrs Olufunmilayo Daudu, said the examination was going on smoothly and the students had been in their best behaviour.
The monitoring team also visited Nawarudeen Grammar School, Salau Abiola College and First Square Secondary School, all in Abeokuta.
