Effiat Clan Council of Chiefs in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been dissolved over crisis and corruption.

It was learnt that the tenure of the council members who were inaugurated by the late Effiat clan head-elect had expired.

A letter signed and addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs by the Clan’s Head, His Highness, Obong Asukwo Okpo, said some chiefs in the council had been fraudulently using the forum for mischief.

On behalf of my chiefs and entire good people of Effiat Clan, I, HRH Obuong Asukwo Okpo, the certified clan head of Effiat, Mbo Local Government Area, write to officially inform the government agencies, oil companies and the general public that Effiat Clan Council of Chiefs is hereby officially dissolved with immediate effect.

The tenure in office for the members of the council has long elapsed since the constitution of the body by the late Effiat Clan head elect many years ago,” the letter read in part.

Speaking on Friday, Okpo accused some chiefs of corruptible tendencies of using the forum to deceive the general public and loot the clan.

He added that the situation has created crisis and state of anarchy in his domain without his knowledge.

He said, “To this end, I direct that the secretary of Effiat Council of Chiefs should return all documents of Effiat Clan to the office of the clan head within two weeks from the dates of this notice.

I urge the general public, companies, government and agencies and Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs to disregard any letter from this defunct Effiat Council of Chiefs.

I also call on the security operatives to arrest and prosecute anybody or group of persons that will continue to use the name of the defunct Council of Chiefs to represent Effiat Clan at any capacity.”
