Bad roads not cause of accidents in Nigeria – Fashola
Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola has said that bad roads is not the major cause of accidents in the country.
Fashola said this on Tuesday in Abuja during the ministerial defence of the 2018 budget.
According to him, data from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), show that bad roads only account for about 1 percent of accident on Nigerian roads.
He added that over speeding, non-adherence to road/safety measures were leading causes of road accident in the country.
The former Lagos state governor noted that a driver cannot over-speed while on a bad road, thus defeating the notion that bad roads cause accidents.
On the Second Niger Bridge, the minister said the present administration would complete the project and not use it as a political tool.
