Forensic audit to reposition NDDC – Pondei

The ongoing forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is meant to make the intervention agency more functional and transparent, the Acting Managing Director of the intervention agency, Prof. Kemebradikumor Pondei, has said.

Pondei, who presented 15 operational vehicles to the auditors in Port Harcourt on Thursday, also restated that the audit was not designed as a witch-hunt.

He said: “You will recall that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the setting up of the forensic audit to look into the activities of the commission from inception to August, 2019.

“It audit) will make the commission deliver on its core mandate and make it to progress.

“The forensic consultants were appointed. Today(yesterday), we are here to hand over additional tools to the forensic auditors and to let everybody know that the process has commenced since and it is going on stronger.

“We hope that at the end of the day the forensic audit will unravel a lot of things that have gone wrong in the commission. It is not a witch-hunting process, but just for us to truly know the state of things and recommend way forward and make sure that the commission delivers on its core mandate.”

The lead Consultant , Joshua Bashiru, said the audit was in fulfilment of the directive of the President, disclosing that 16 audit firms were involved in the process.

Also, the Principal Consultant, Alhaji Kabiru Ahmed, said the process was a milestone aimed at exposing what had gone wrong in the commission since inception.

“Today signifies another important milestone to unraveling what has happened in this organization in the last 20 years,” Ahmed said.

He added that the event was designed to introduce the forensic audit team one involved in the process and update the management of the activities of the firm.
