The Kano State Government has purchased 100 transformers worth over N500 million as part of renewed effort to improve power supply especially in the rural areas.

The state governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje stated this while presenting the equipment to some selected associations and communities in Kano on Friday.

He said the transformers would be installed in the villages and towns where they are most needed in order to improve power supply and enhance the living standard of the people.

He said the decision to provide the transformers followed the numerous complaints the state government received from some communities in the state.

“The state government is constructing an Independent Power Plant under a private partnership arrangement at Tiga dam as part of its efforts to enhance power supply in the state and boost the socio-economic status of the citizens of the state,”he said.

Ganduje urged the benefitting communities to guard the facilities against vandals as the transformers are now fully under their custody.

According to him, the state government had constructed a number of roads in the three Senatorial districts in order to to ease transportation of farm produce to the markets across the state.

In addition, he said the state government had constructed new hospitals and rehabilitated many others as well as introduced health Insurance Scheme for the civil servants to enable them access quality healthcare service.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Rural and community Development, Alhaji Musa Iliyasu commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for providing the transformers which he said will go along way in improving electricity supply in the rural areas.
