Hushpuppi: Police commission constitutes fresh panel to investigate Abba Kyari

The Police Service Commission has constituted a separate panel to investigate embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, following his indictment for alleged links with internet fraudsters by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The PSC announced on Thursday that it had set up an in-house panel to probe FBI’s allegation against the former head of the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

This came 19 days after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, constituted a panel to investigate the officer.

PSC’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed that the in-house panel will “gather and document relevant information” on the ‘super cop’, “in view of his disciplinary matter and to analyze the information gathered and make appropriate recommendation/s to the Commission”.

The panel inaugurated by PSC’s Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Ismaila, will be headed by the commission’s director in charge of the Department of Police Discipline, Bar. Tijani Mohammed.

Ani revealed that the panel had started probing the matter while the Commission awaits the report of the Police Investigation Panel headed by the Kyari’s long term friend, DIG Joseph Egbunike.

“The Report of the in-house Panel is expected to assist the Commission take an informed decision when the Police Investigative Panel Report is submitted for the Commission’s consideration,” the statement read.
