INSECURITY: OGUN GOVERNOR, ABIODUN DOUBLES EFFORTS, INAUGURATES TRUST FUND COMMITTEE

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Friday inaugurated a six-man committee to oversee the execution of Ogun State Security Trust Fund. The committee headed by the Chairman Lafarge Africa,  Mr. Bolaji Balogun, comprised of four bankers an ex-AIG, and was tasked to source funds to procure require materials needed to combat insecurity in the State.

This initiative under the Ogun State Security Trust Fund (Amendment) Law 2019 is aimed to have the private sector support the government in addressing various security challenges facing the state. 

Governor Abiodun in his address said that the State needs the involvement of all stakeholders, especially the private sector to win the insecurity wars in Ogun State. ” It is our sincere belief that with these funds, our security will be further strengthened to provide a more secured environment where our people will live a more prosperous life,” he said.

In a follow up exclusive interview with Newsclickng.com Correspondent, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Kunle Somorin disclosed that though the Security Trust Fund was birthed during the last administration, the amendment under Gov. Abiodun’s administration is to integrate transparent accounting system; and as well engage all stakeholders in securing the state.

The CPS further revealed that security equipment inherited from the last administration will be improved on to meet current security needs. “Under the amended Law, private sectors are commissioned to serve as Trustees of the security fund, as well as control and mobilize resources”. Though the Trust Fund is entrusted to Private Sector, the activities of the committee will be in collaboration with the government, while opportunities are given to communities, bodies and private citizens to voluntarily contribute to the Security Trust Fund.      

In his response during the Friday inauguration, the Chairman of the Ogun State Security Trust Fund, Mr. Bolaji Balogun acknowledged the effort of the state governor in ensuring a safe environment for individuals and businesses adding that the activities of the states security trust fund would be transparently done for the good of all stakeholders in the state.
