The Controller of Correctional Services, FCT Command, Mr Abdulrahman Maiyaki, has ordered the personnel of the command to be on the alert in order to repeal any attempt from hoodlums to attack any Custodial Centre in the FCT.
Maiyaki gave this order during an operational routine check to rate the level of security beef-up within and around the custodial centres in the Command.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some hoodlums on Thursday attempted to break into the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCos) Centre, Ikoyi, in Lagos, in an attempt to liberate the inmates.
The attempt came four days after a similar, but successful, attempt was carried out in Edo by youths claiming to be participating in the ongoing EndSARS prtotests.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer, NCoS, FCT Command, Mr Chukwuedo Humphrey, on Thursday in Abuja, said that Maiyaki went round the three holding facilities in FCT.
According to him, the facilities include Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja Medium Custodial Centre and Dukpa Model Farm Centre.
The statement quoted Maiyaki as saying that he was highly satisfied with the deployment of personnel while calling for more synergy with other security agencies.
The synergy, he said, would complement the efforts of NCoS’ armed personnel and conventional officers.
He appreciated the earlier deployment of soldiers from the 176 Guards Battalion, Gwagwalada, 102 Battalion, Zuma Rock, Suleja, the armed squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and the Mobile Police personnel, to secure the facilities.
The Controller further warned that any miscreant seen attempting to foment trouble close to any Correctional Service facility would be apprehend and handed over to the authorities.
He enjoined residents of FCT, especially those living within the environment of the custodial facilities, of safety.
