by Adeoluwa Bravo
Activities have been halted at the Ikeja office of the Sahara Reporters, following the locked down by combined operatives of the Nigeria Army, and the Police.
Staffers at the Sahara Reporters office said the operatives bang the gate repeatedly, and have afterwards prevented anyone from going in or coming of out of the office.
The online newspaper in a follow up tweet #UnderSiege – said more security operatives from Special Anti-robbery & Anti-cultism Squad have arrived to join the Army and the Police in a bid to clamp down on the news medium.
In its earlier tweet, the online newspaper reported the operatives to be shouting: “Open the gate! Come outside,” “Is this Sahara Reporters office?”
At the time of filing this report, the operatives who are reportedly armed, were stationed outside Sahara building located at Ikeja GRA, blocking access into the building and ordering those inside the building to vacate.
It would recalled that the Publisher of the online newspaper, Omoyele Sowore had been arrested on the 3rd of August 2019 for planning the controversial #RevolutionNow protest and was to be detained for 45 days on court order.
The locked down was speculated to forestall another protest reportedly scheduled for today Wednesday 18, September.
