Nigeria’s first female chartered accountant, Olakunrin, dies at 80

The first female chartered accountant in Nigeria, Chief Olutoyin Olakunrin, is dead. She died at the age of 80. She was said to have passed on Sunday morning after she slumped during church service and was rushed to the hospital.

A source privy to the incident said moments after, a large number of sympathisers began trooping into her residence in Ikoyi to console with the family.

Born on November 4, 1937, the revered accountant was said to be a foundation member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 1965. The late octogenarian, who was the mother-in-law of the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Segun Agbaje, also once served as the Chairman of the Education Trust Fund, now Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

She was married to Mr. Simeon Olakunrin, a senior advocate of Nigeria.
