NIS arrest two suspected human traffickers in Katsina State
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it has apprehended two suspected human traffickers and rescued three of their victims in Katsina State.
The NIS Comptroller in the state, Mr Ajisafe Olusola, disclosed this at a news conference on Thursday in Katsina.
Olusola said that the suspects (names withheld) were arrested on Jan. 17 and 19 at the Mazanya/Daura Patrol Border Base.
He said that one of the suspects was found with a passport and resident permit of Libya.
Olusola said: “Investigations revealed that he had dwelled in Libya until recently when they were forcefully brought to Nigeria by the Federal Government.
“The suspects intended to smuggle their victims out of the country to Libya en route Niger Republic.
“It may interest you to know that one of the traffickers claimed to be the husband of his victim.
“The duo was brought to Nigeria from Libya in 2018; they are unrepentant human traffickers because no sooner than they returned to Nigeria, that they constituted themselves to very powerful recruitment agents.”
According to Olusola, the suspects deceive young Nigerians with good job offers in Libya or opportunity to further their education in Europe.
The comptroller added that the suspects would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and necessary actions.
