Oyetola inaugurates cabinet, warns against graft

Members of the new cabinet in Osun State on Thursday took oaths of office as Governor Adegboyega Oyetola warned that he would not hesitate to wield the big stick on anyone found involved in corrupt acts, The Punch report.

The governor also said performance charter would be given to the cabinet members to guide their roles while Service Delivery and Evaluating Unit would assess their performance and productivity periodically.

Oyetola, in his remarks at the event held at his office, charged them to quickly familiarise themselves with the contents of the administration’s development agenda.

He maintained that his administration would not tolerate corruption.

Oyetola said, “Ensure you go about your duties with probity and transparency. These are the elements that would ensure stellar performance in the face of extant limited resources and earn the trust of the people.

“As heads of ministries, you are our delivery channels. I charge you to harness the available human and material resources to fulfil our promises to the people.

“A performance charter will be given to you to guide your role in delivery on the agenda. There will be service delivery and evaluating unit to assess your performance and productivity from time to time.

“Your tasks have been carefully designed to enable you give full expression to your competence and contributions within the larger context of the developmental agenda, the basis on which your performance and relevance will be rated.”

Some of the commissioners and special advisers and their portfolios are President of Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mrs Funke Egbemode, who was assigned Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation; Folorunsho Oladoyin, Commissioner for Education; Mr Lekan Badmus, Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration.

Others are Remi Owowaye, Commissioner for Works and Transport; Yemi Lawal, Commissioner for Youth and Sports; Olufemi Akande, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Dayo Adewole, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security and Dr Rafiu Isamotu, Commissioner for Health.

Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun on Thursday inaugurated his cabinet, almost a year after he was sworn-in as the governor.

Oyetola, who was sworn-in as the governor on Nov. 27, 2018, appointed Mrs Funke Egbemode, the President, Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), as Commissioner for Information at the inauguration in Osogbo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the governor in Sept. 24 , transmitted 35 names of Commissioners and Special Advisers, to the State House of Assembly for screening; and the Assembly, subsequently confirmed all the 35 nominees on Oct. 9.

The governor, in his remarks at the inauguration, urged the cabinet members to shun acts capable of undermining the corporate integrity of his administration and the state.

Oyetola, who said his administration had zero tolerance for corruption, warned that the government would not hesitate to wield the big stick where necessary on any official found wanting of public misconduct.

He warned them to do away with frivolities but work as one formidable and impenetrable team for development of the state.

The governor also urged them to see their appointments as clarion call to serve humanity and support the administration to uplift the state.

“Ensure that you discharge every duty with utmost probity, accountability and transparency as these are the elements that will deliver stellar service; in the face of extant limited resources and earn the trust of the people.

“Our Administration is a product of God’s promise, the benevolence of the people and our mandate.

“The Almighty God and the people have delivered their own part. The ball is now in our court to deliver on our promises.

“As heads of Ministries, you are our delivery channel. I charge you to harness the available human and material resources to fulfill our bond to the people,” the governor said.

Speaking on behalf of the newly-inaugurated cabinet members, Funke Egbemode, lauded the governor for the confidence reposed in them to serve the state.

She assured the governor and the entire people of the state of diligent service in their respective ministries.

“We will not disappoint you. We will put in our very best to support the administration and uplift the standard of living of the people of the state,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that among the newly sworn-in cabinet members were: seven members of ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s cabinet, and Mrs Funke Egbemode,  President, NGE, and four other women.

Egbemode is an indigene of Osun and the current Managing Director of the Telegraph newspaper.
