There was pandemonium at Dogon Maje village of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara state, as unidentified gunmen invaded the community and killed nine persons, including a renowned Islamic Scholar, Malam Ibrahim Kuryan Madaro.
An eye witness disclosed to newsmen that the bandits invaded the village at around 10:30 pm and began house to house search of people.
The witness said in the process of search, the bandits opened fire on the people and killed eight persons, while scholar, was met inside a mosque, reading holy Qur’an and shoot him and slit troth .
According to the witness, late Ibrahim, an indigene of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area visited the village to witness Maulud celebration organised by the community.
He also stated that, no security personnel have been send to them for over 24 hours after the incident, describing the trend as unfortunate. It was however, gathered that, the bandits used the cell phone of the deceased to call his biological son, Rayyahi Abubakar, to informed him that, his father was killed at the village.
“Immediately after the incident, the bandits used his phone and called me, they asked, “do you know the owner of this line and said yes is my father, then they said, we have just killed him here at Dogon Maje village so you should come and pick his body”, he stressed.
When contacted, police public relations officer SP. Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident, stressed that already a combine team of Counter Terrorism Unit and Mobile Police have been deployed to the area to restore peace.
