Police arrest five suspected vandals with trucks of looted railway sleepers
Kaduna State Police Command said it has arrested five suspected railway track vandals with two trucks loaded with locomotive railway sleepers.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammad Jalige who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, however dismissed the rumour that the incident affected the Kaduna-Abuja train services.
ASP Jalige said the five suspects were arrested last Thursday at Dalle Village of Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state.
According to the Police Spokesman, “the attention of the Kaduna State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video and pictures of a vandalized rail track on social media platforms that are being attributed to the Abuja –Kaduna rail track.
“The Command wishes to clarify and allay the fear of all train users that the said video and pictures have nothing to do with Abuja- Kaduna rail track, as the train services are ongoing without any hindrance.
“However, information available to the Command has it that the video and the pictures in circulation emanated from Enugu State where NSCDC Operatives of Enugu Command apprehended and equally paraded some rail track vandals. Hence, it shouldn’t be attributed to Kaduna-Abuja Rail track.
“In a related development, the Kaduna Police Command had on the 13th May, 2021 acted on a reliable information and succeeded in arresting five (5) suspected rail trail vandals at Dalle Village of Jema’a LGA of Kaduna state and recovered two trucks loaded with locomotive railway sleepers.
“The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and effort is being intensified with a view to identifying all people involved in the destruction of critical national infrastructure.
“The general public is hereby advised to disregard the video in circulation attributing it to the Kaduna rail track as the two incidents has no direct link whatsoever to the popular Kaduna-Abuja railway service,” Jalige said.
