Police nab four cultists for murder in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested four suspects for murder in different locations in the state, The Punch report.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, in a statement on Sunday, identified one of the suspects as Amos Ekuma, adding that the other yet-to-be-identified suspects were members of the Aiye Confraternity and allegedly murdered one Enoch Obaro and dumped his corpse in a bush.

According to Elkana, a man identified simply as Actor used an iron rod to attack Ekuma, who retaliated by pushing his attacker, to the ground and he died in the process.

He added that Actor’s corpse had been deposited in a mortuary and Ekuma was undergoing discreet investigation.

The PPRO said, “On Saturday, December 14, 2019, around 2pm, one Amos Ekuma, of No. 59 Ajipon Street, Ogijo, Ogun State, reported himself to the police in Ikorodu that he was in his shop on Friday, December 13, 2019, around 7pm along Sabo Road by Kokoro Abu in Ikorodu, when a laundryman beside his shop, popularly known as Actor, attacked him with an iron rod as a result of an argument that ensued between them earlier in the day, which was resolved by neighbours.

“He stated that when Ekuma pushed him, the said Actor fell down and was rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment, but died while on admission. The corpse was deposited in the mortuary for autopsy. The suspect is in our custody for discreet investigation by homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.”

In another development, three yet-to-be-identified suspects were arrested for the killing of one Enoch, whose decomposing body was recovered from a bush around the Fadayin junction in the Imota area of Ikorodu.

Elkana said Enoch’s mutilated corpse was recovered from the bush after he had been declared missing when his wife, Yemisi, reported to the police that he left home and never returned.

He added that the suspects would be charged.

Elkana stated, “On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, around 8.30pm, one Yemisi Obaro of No. 5 Surulere Street, Agbowa, reported at the Agbowa Police Station that her husband, Enoch Obaro, 30, left home in the morning and did not return.

“She stated that all efforts to trace his location proved abortive. The message was sent to all police stations across the state through the police control room to help in finding Enoch. On Sunday, December 8, 2019, around 2.30pm, the police received a call that Enoch’s remains were sighted at an isolated bushy area by the Fadayin junction, Imota, Ikorodu.

“A team of homicide detectives was drafted to the scene, where the decomposing body of Enoch was evacuated for autopsy. The corpse was mutilated with the two hands severed and a leg cut off. Expended cartridges and broken bricks were equally recovered from the scene.

“Three suspects were arrested in connection with the murder. They are members of the Aiye Confraternity, who were on the police wanted list for various offences ranging from armed robbery, violent attacks, cultism and land-grabbing. The suspects will be charged.”

In another development, the command, in collaboration with the office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in the state, has charged 22 persons for violating traffic laws and confiscated seven vehicles for the same offence.

According to Elkana, the traffic offenders were apprehended during the enforcement of traffic laws in the state and were arraigned before a mobile court.

The PPRO said, “The Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with the Lagos State Judiciary and the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice has commenced the prosecution of traffic law violators in a mobile court. A total of 22 offenders were apprehended on Friday, December 13, 2019, in different parts of Lagos, mostly for driving against the traffic and seven vehicles were confiscated.

“The offenders were immediately arraigned before a mobile court. The enforcement of traffic laws will be sustained all through the festive period and beyond. The enforcement team is guided by the mantra, ‘Traffic must flow’.”

Meanwhile, four suspects have been arrested for armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms in Ibeju-Lekki and the tollgate area along the Badagry Expressway.

Elkana said one Yemi Ayanda reported to the police that three armed robbers invaded his house at Alatise in Ibeju-Lekki and robbed him of his valuables, adding that one of the robbers, Ibrahim Hassan, was arrested during the operation.

He stated that further investigation led to the arrest of the two fleeing members of the gang, adding that the suspects would be charged.

Elkana said, “On Monday, December 9, 2019, around 9.55pm, one Yemi Ayanda, of Road A, House 1, Green Heaven Estate, Alatise, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, reported at the Elemero Police Station that on the same date around 8.20pm, three armed robbers invaded his house and locked him inside a room. They tied him up and dispossessed him of his Tecno phone and car key.

“He raised the alarm, which attracted neighbours. One of the suspects, Ibrahim Hassan, was instantly arrested, while the remaining two escaped. Detectives, through a thorough and painstaking investigation, arrested the two fleeing suspects. The suspects will be charged.”

Also, a security guard, Liasu Raji, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm in the tollgate area along the Badagry Expressway.

Elkana said, “The suspect was arrested with one English pump action single-barrelled rifle with 10 rounds of live cartridges. An investigation is ongoing; the suspect will be charged.”
