Stakeholders from various NGOs, government agencies and the media on Monday converged in Jos to fashion out best ways of ending the farmer-herder clashes in Plateau.

The meeting was at the instance of the Rural Development Counselors for Christians Churches in Africa (RURCON).

Declaring the event open, Mr Kenneth Seidu, the Peace Building Officer of the organisation said the meeting was aimed at developing a document that would influence government policies toward achieving lasting solutions to the incessant clashes..

He explained that discussion would centre on developing best strategies for government to adopt in ending the rift between the two groups, particularly at the rural level.

“We are gathered here as key stakeholders to develop a document that will be used to influence government policies toward ending the challenges farmers and herders face at the rural communities.

“We want to find ways of using local capacities to achieve sustainable resolutions that will lead to peaceful coexistence among the rural dwellers.

“So, our gathering today is aimed at ensuring that total peace is achieved at the rural communities in Plateau,’’ he said.

Seidu said that similar session would also be organised for community and religious leaders in the state.
