Three corps members die in Katsina crash

The Katsina Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed of Sunday that three serving corps members in Katsina State lost their lives in a fatal lone crash that occurred in Gobirawa village in the Kankara Local Government Area of the state.

 The spokesman for the FRSC in the state, Abdullahi Ibrahim, said the corps memebers died on the spot.

Details of their identities had yet to be revealed by the National Youths Service Corps in Katsina State.

Eyewitnesses, however, disclosed that the late corps members were travelling along with their colleagues to attend a wedding  in Funtua when the accident happened.

The green metallic vehicle with number plate MAN 45 AA has ‘CORPERS FOR CHRIST’ inscription on its side.

When Governor Aminu Masari, who was travelling to Danja, got to the accident scene, he directed that his pilot vehicle be used to convey the corpers’ remains and their wounded colleagues back to Katsina.

The governor was on his way to Danja to attend the burial rites of one of his allies, Alhaji Saleh Danja, who also died in a fatal road accident on Saturday at Tsanni in the Batagarawa Local Government Area of the state.

One of the corps members, who survived the crash, told Masari that they were on their way to attend a mass wedding at a Catholic Church in Funtua when the accident happened.

He further said the accident occurred when the driver tried to apply brakes on the slippery road after a downpour.

The driver, he said, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.

The Katsina NYSC spokesman, Mr Alex Oboameta, had yet to react to enquiries sent to him.
